  • Is the program only open for locals citizens?

    We anticipate and encourage local active citizens to participate in the program. We also encourage a mix of people from various backgrounds, experiences and geographies.

  • What are the selection criteria?

    We work with young people who care about their responsibilities (or want to) as an active citizen and strive to create a better community around them. Participants are short-listed on the basis of their answers to this short application form and a phone interview.

    Eligibility

    • “The Learning Village” program is open to all students, mainstream professionals, active citizens, and those who care to be the change.
    • Between (and including) 18 to 40 years of age.
    • Fluency in a local language is preferred in order to work in community set-up, but not mandatory.
    • Aspiring social entrepreneurs, journalists, volunteers and active citizens wanting to begin community/neighborhood development journeys are preferred.

  • What’s the course fee? What does the fee cover?

    The program aims to remain not-for-loss program with participants contribution. This includes expenses incurred by

    • Honorarium to facilitators and mentors for their time and travel.
    • Commoners’ kit, which includes a Workbooks, T-shirt & a bag.
    • Snacks & Lunch.
    • Carefully chosen program venues.
    • Community immersion trips.

    Program contribution is Rs. 27,000. The program is also open to those who may not be able to pay at the moment. Should you want to support fellow participants, the excess of your contribution will help gather a right mix of deserving participants.

    Do not let money be an impediment to your applying. Need-based waivers are available for a few participants. Please ask for a waiver in the application form if you feel you need and deserve it.

  • How long is the program?

    The Learning Village, Goa, comprises of

    • 5 Week Intensive guided program. (Mandatory)
    • 6 Months Apprenticeship with
      • Local non-profits / social organizations / Village Development Committes
      • Prototyping our own theory of change

  • What are some important dates?

    The Learning Village, Goa

    • Apply before: October 15th, 2017
    • Participants Shortlist Announcement: October 20th, 2017
    • The Learning Village: October 31st – December 15th, 2017
    • Apprenticeship: January – June, 2018.

  • When and how do I make the contribution?

    Filling up the application form doesn’t guarantee your admission. We don’t reject applicants however we believe there are certain elements that make you a good fit for the journey.

    After confirmation from the UoC team, applicants will be shared with the account number and UPI address where you can pay to confirm your on-boarding.

  • I am already working on my social venture. Can I participate in 'The Learning Village' for 5 weeks guided program and skip the apprenticeship?

    Yes, you may!

    The Learning Village is primarily for those who are looking for guidance and coaching support to build upon an existing idea. If however, you find a supportive mentor or an organization working in similar space that you aspire to create change – do consider apprenticing with them.

    And as you go back inspired to continue with your venture, our facilitators and mentors shall keep in touch via group webinars, phone-calls and casual meetings to stay connected.
